SYW Austrian Cuirassiers

Still just holding the mojo (partly helped by a slight reorganisation of my painting station). This post some Austrian heavy cavalry. These are the first 10mm Old Glory figures I have done which I picked up cheap off eBay. The castings are not as good as the Pendraken figures and as others have mentioned the figures don’t fit the horses terribly well. However, they were cheap and once painted they don’t look to bad.
Four bases of Cuirassiers although we are still working on the ratios etc it is likely each base will represent 2 squadrons, the flag looks rubbish close up as I just cut and infantry flag in half but at 10 mm you can get away with it on the table
Thought it would be interesting to compare Pendraken on the left with Old Glory on the right. Despite the quality differences they match well, the same can’t be said for the infantry
Just as I had the box open I took a photo of the Austrians in the foreground and Prussian Cuirassiers behind, but you do start to get a sense of what a full battlefield will hopefully look like πŸ˜€

What next ..........πŸ˜€

  1. The Old Glory SYW 10mm cavalry look good. My gaming buddy has painted a ton of these and they look really good with paint. I have never liked the Old Glory 10mm horses. The anatomy looks a bit off to me. Once painted and based, they look great! For Honours of War, we typically play two squadrons per base too.

    1. Thanks Jonathan, I concur with all your comments, but if they aren’t cheap in some way I will only be getting specific Old Glory figures.

    1. as always i've been thinking about numbers in regiments.
For Austria a wartime infantry battalion was 6 coys of 133 men plus officers = 800 men plus 2 coys of grenadiers of 100 men each. as the grenadiers were combined with others an infantry stand of 15/16 figures would be a battalion at a ratio of 50:1. 2 battalions to a regimeny. a combined grenadiers battalion would be 16 figures with 8 from each regiment.
for cavalry a squadron was 2 companies of 75 men. therefore at 2 squadrons would be about 300 men. a base with 5 figures would have a ratio of 60:1. 6 squadrons would be a regiment. ussars had slightly more men, 1300 at full strenght

    2. Yep I think I have that in my head. I suspect I will never be too specific but good to start with a plan πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks Michael the main change was improving the internet signal into the cellar which means I can arch my iPad formally I was restricted to this on the kitchen table so now I can paint in smaller sessions without disturbance πŸ‘

    1. Thanks, did you suffer from the same issues with cavalry figures not fitting their horses ? A real pain !
