Royalist Reccon section WIP : VBCW

After a busy weekend terrain building I thought I would try something different. I picked up the two variations of the 1st Corps motorcycle sidecars at the last show I went to. These are going to form part of a large mobile Royalist army invading the NE for our next VBCW battle. They might also find their way into a Sealion battle.

These are really nice models and look the part but.........I have to say they are possibly the hardest figures I have ever had to put together. My usually reserved British approach forbids me from complaining and whilst the individual components are lovely they simple haven't been built to fit together. Although you can't see them these are only working by the addition of 4 or 5 extra pins which had to be added and as for the machine gun they have simply included a version from a different set so you have to cut it down significantly to get it to work. So I guess the lesson is really nice models, will look great when finished, but a big challenge putting them together. Next time I bump into 1st Corps at a show I'll be offering some constructive feedback 😀

  1. they are a massive pain but they do look good built. I've been jigging around with my defence of West Aukland force and have replaced AT gun with a 50 cal HMG, seems more appropriate

    1. The royalists do have access to some armour ! But as it is likely to be a raid they are likely to be light rather than anything too heavy.

    2. cool cos I have no transport nor armour. My points value was about 1170 I think but that is all of my miners and union types. I can reduce this to a more sensible amount as needed to make a decent fight

    3. You don't need to reduce ! Unless you want the royalists and fascists to simply walk all over WA.

    4. Martin now has the perfect excuse to field any Leftist leaning, professional soldiers of the 68th DLI and 19th Green Howards to his force!

RAF Catterick isn't too far away, either. Martin, throw in a few biplanes to tackle those pigeons!

  2. I have two of these on my desk that have so far defeated me. I am glad it isn't just me!

    1. Nice models which I hope will look fine when painted but best tackled with lots of previous experience !

  3. You wouldn't have had such difficulties if you'd been doing camels!

Last camel line, I promise :)

    1. Ha ha. The equivalent for a camel would be the hump not fitting🤔

  4. Look OK at least, look forward to seeing them painted. I have found with several metal kits that the parts appear to have been made by different people, a case of singing the same notes in a different order :-)

  5. I'm glad you posted this Matt as they were on my possibles list. Now they are scratched, sorry 1st Corps, but I'm sick of kits from many manufacturers that either don't go together easily, need flash and vent runs removing or are not robust enough for war Gaming!

    1. Sculpting is fine and they will hopefully look good when painted but want they certainly need some fiddling and a lot of patience to get them together.

  6. From what I can see they definitely look worth the effort of putting together.

  8. They look good, but it is disappointing when kits don't go together without a lot of work. I remember making a couple of 20mm Daimler ACs by a Chinese company some years ago. They were terrible bloody things to put together, and even the paint wouldn't stick!

    1. Nice models but very fiddly and hopefully my paint will cover the excesses of glue I had to use !
