Managed a battle on Friday and decided to roll out the Russian Civil War collection for a ‘convoy’ scenario.
The Reds have secured important resources being carried in three trucks, these must be escorted from A to B. red forces will arrive from the far end, the Whites will be in ambush, their forces split in half arriving randomly at points 1 to 6 based on a D6.
The ‘convoy’ can be activated on a 6+ on 2D6 for each vehicle, but the road is too narrow for them to pass ! They can move a maximum of 18” each turn.
The convoy sets off supported by infantry, but the last vehicle fails its activation
The rest of the red force arrives from the other road, no vehicles are allowed off the road due to the snow
Whites arrive pretty randomly including some cavalry along the road
The ‘Reds’ armoured car moves to cover the lead vehicle and opens up with its machine guns
The ambush is sprung but a fubar causes the lead infantry to flee back from the woods
White forces push down the road, to capture the convoy if possible
White infantry ambushes from the woods and exchanges fire across the stream
The ‘white’ Cossacks charge against the leading reds but are cut down in the process
The armoured car pushes down the road to clear the way
More whites, the officers regiment cut right to try and block the road
Long range shooting has limited effect
But getting the first dice from the bag the whites are able to hoop the fence and blow the lead vehicle.
The next truck skips past down the road and the Reds throw all their firepower at the enemy attempting to block the road, the second vehicle manages to escape the ambush
But with the last dice out of the bag the Officers Regiment is able to surge through the gap in the fence and assault the final vehicle
This is also set on fire just before it can escape. Giving the Whites a win at the last throw of the dice. A fun game and close till the end, the Reds perhaps didn’t get all their troops into to play quickly enough but the whites were lucky to have anything left with most of their force dead in the woods !
Sunday saw a trip to York for the Vapnartak wargame show. Lots going on a busy, no photos of games as we were too busy shopping and chatting. So instead a photo of the ridiculous amount of loot which I bought. Nearly all of it secondhand so lots of bargains, covering a wide range of projects.
A fun day out π now I need to get on with painting it.
Matt
That looks like a fun game Matt, and I love the vehicles. I can see a British battalion among the haul from Vapnartak. Will there be any refurbishment required?
ReplyDeleteThanks Lawrence, part of the appeal of the period for me is the quirky vehicles and armoured cars π well spotted I did pick up a painted Napoleonic unit. I gentleman was selling loads of stuff off from his collection. I have enough French so picked up a British unit at very reasonable price. I will post them up later in the day π
DeleteFine game Matt. I may borrow the scenario for the VBCW later on. Good haul from Vapnartak!
ReplyDeleteOf course feel free, I have found the trick is getting the movement distance right. I have found that activating on 6+ with 2D6 seems to work giving a good chance of getting off the table but also ensuring a few fails !
DeleteInteresting battle. Glad you had fun at York. See you soon
ReplyDeleteYep a fun battle π
DeleteLooks like a fun and interesting game Matt
ReplyDeleteThanks Neil
DeleteLovely looking game as always and lots of nice kit on show. Glad you had a nice day out and the show and picked up loads of goodies too:).
ReplyDeleteThanks Steve the RCW is more colourful than most people expect and usually gives a fun run out with Bolt Action
DeleteA fine game and a mighty haul there Matt.
ReplyDeleteThanks Phil….yes I bought too much π but I can’t miss a bargain !
DeleteGreat looking game - just a pity the wrong side won (not that I am biased or anything!)
ReplyDeleteThat does look like a significant amount of "new" stuff for you to get your teeth into, too!
Thanks Keith , I’m not taking sides in the RCW neither side being the ‘goodies’ in my view. Yes I bought loads of stuff π
DeleteAnother grsat looking battle!
ReplyDeleteBest regards
Thanks Michal π
DeleteThe battle looks great, exciting AAR as well. Fun to get toys out, especially when the collection is so cool!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo it is a nice little period to game and I was planning to get many more figures ?
DeleteI do love seeing your Russian Civil War collection in action, it never fails to entertain.
ReplyDeleteThanks Michael they do provide a fun game possibly because both sides are fairly equal with underpowered vehicles and guns ?
DeleteFab looking game, Matt! Your vehicles are ace. I enjoyed the B&W photo slipping into the action. Very atmospheric.
ReplyDeleteWhat all did you buy at the show?
Thanks Jon , your grammar has slipped (auto correction I suspect ) in your question, but I think I get the gist. π
Deletenice looking battle as usual. though you consistently do nice battles over a variety of settings which is pretty cool.
ReplyDeletesounds like the show was pretty fun as well. π
Thanks Stew, a fun period, I guess my collections and approach is the same for most periods I game so I am aiming for the same level of aesthetics for each.
DeleteGreat looking game . Decent stash there too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dave….loads of stuff !!!
DeleteA cracking looking and sounding game Matt…
ReplyDeleteIt’s always good to get new …or even second hand … toys.
