The Battle for Horn Street : Operation Sealion

We have another Sealion battle planned for the weekend. This will be the largest to date so I thought I would share the planning in advance.

We are still on S-day.... the 21st Infantry Regiment landing in the Hythe Sector have secured a footing in the early morning, Officers on the ground have reported determined but sporadic defence and are confident that the second wave of troops can be brought ashore. In this sector the key overall objective is to secure the harbour at Folkestone. Whilst airborne troops have landed just north of the town the task of the 21st IR is to block any potential reinforcements arriving down the A20 to secure a defensive line north of the A20 and then push East into Folkestone itself.

Having secured the Sandgate beachfront and open ground around the golf course (see previous battles) they are now pushing inland sending a sizeable force north up Horn Street. The objective is clear to secure the junction with the A20 just west of Cheriton. Elements of the 20th Fallschirmjager Regiment have already secured St Martin's Church and are about to move on the road junction.

The Area is defended by elements of the 1st London Infantry Brigade, the 8th and 9th Royal Fusiliers, supported by the 113th Field Regiment. Even at this early stage and whilst communications remain good help is on its way the 8th Royal Tank Regiment is concentrating towards the Area as quickly as possible. The Allied forces are supplemented by units of the 8th Battalion of the Home Guard from Cheriton and West Folkestone.

    1. If they are lucky they will be able to get some artillery up to the front otherwise the German armour is going to take some stopping.

  2. The German plan of attack: get two guys, an FO to call in Stukas and a FAC to act as spotter for naval gunfire support, up in the church tower and supported by the Fallschirmjager. Sit back and watch the stuff get blown up. Roll in the tanks supported by grenadiers. Take a coffee break and read the latest edition of Signal.

It would be cruel to suggest that the British plan would be: "Don't panic!"
