German DFS230 Glider : Operation Sealion
Working away at stuff and have completed my German Glider. In real life they were very small and only carried a small 8 man squad. In reality it is likely to behave as a launch point for Fallschirmjager raids.
I do need to decide about the tail fin which normally sports a swastika, I know this causes lots of issues so haven't put one on at this stage....I might just put a black cross ?
If you post on the Lead Adventure Forum (and other German pages) you wont be allowed to feature things bearing swastikas, if that's any help. Bit of a bugger if your doing an Oriental or Ancients army that uses the ancient swastika symbol...
Thanks Michael, they would undoubtedly have used plenty if they had invaded, they were very small but the bigger version the Germans had was ridiculous !
Thanks Simon yes 1:48 it's the Special Hobby version' which comes with Romanian marking, but as far as I can tell from the web they were identical ? Made incidentally in the Czech Republic. I want ground scale so it can sit on the table, delivering Fallschirmjager right to the heart of the action. I plan to only use one and will assume the others have landed slightly off table, but it will give a nice jump off point for the Germans.
Great looking model, I tend to think historical markings should be applied, I know you can't in Germany but in the UK you do what you're happy with I guess, they just look a bit odd to my mind without all the markings. Best Iain
Impressive and beautiful model!

DeleteWhat a superb addition Matt and great to see it in action, as it were, in that last photograph.

DeleteVery nice, is that 1/48 scale? Hannatts are selling one in that size.

DeleteFine piece Matt. Pop on the historically correct markings, if folk don't approve they needn't look.
ReplyDeleteThanks David still pondering the markings 🤔

Thanks Iain the jury is out on the swastikas at this stage, partly as I can't find the one I thought I had ! We'll see🙂
