Gebirgsjager : Operation Sealion

After a few evenings watching Game of Thrones I have managed to get the Gebirgsjager pretty much finished. Initially these will be playing as the 143rd Mountain Regiment who have landed at the base of the cliffs between Folkestone and Dover. After a brief firefight they have made the top of the Cliffs where they can now link up with the 19th Fallschirmjager Regiment and push east towards Dover.
With two boxes of Warlord Gebirgsjager and a couple of spare figures I have managed to create two squads each with an NCO and a submachine gun, two MG34's which can play separately or in the units. A command figure with a spotter and a small mortar team.
I have been pretty flexible with uniforms as I didn't want them to look too regimented, I have also thrown in some headswops to give even more variety. After all these are effectively elite commando type troops. It would be nice to have a few more to make them up to a full force of say ten units but I'm not sure if this will happen....a small mountain gun would be nice perhaps. All being well they will see action this evening πŸ˜€

  5. Excellent work! We have both been churning through loads of 28mm Gebirgsjager as of late. Mine are all Black Tree Design, though. Finished off the last four in my Lead Pile this morning.

    1. Thanks ...I like the blacktree and might look to collect a couple. But having checked them out they don't seem to do a lot of variation ? I think I noted above I quite fancy a slightly larger force, which for bolt action would mean another couple of units really but that would feel a bit too much of all the same. I might lookout for some more conversion options perhaps a gun crew ?

    2. Ten units of 10-13 each is a large force for a skirmish game. Chain of Command typically requires only one platoon. In Gebirgsjager terms, that is about 45 figures. For me, that is plenty for a small scale tactical action.

  6. Nicely done. I did wonder at the title for this page - Gebirgsjager? In Kent? Not many mountains there that I recall. But then you mentioned the White Cliffs. Of course! It all makes sense now. ;)

    1. Thanks AJ ....yes according to the literature the 6th mountain division were scheduled to be part of the initial assault for Sealowe. In the sector between Folkestone and Dover. Not quite scaling the white cliffs, but the bluffs and smaller cliffs around Lydden Spout. Not quite pointe du Hoc but similar.

    1. Thanks.......they are nice figures, as far as I know Warlord and blacktree are the only manufacturers in 28 mm but I might be wrong, I wanted them to look slightly different which is of course why they are niceπŸ˜€

  8. They look brilliant Matt and what a sight they would be scaling the cliffs at Dover - makes you shudder in anticipation!

    1. Thanks Michael they were scheduled to assault the cliffs between Folkestone and Dover so not quite main white cliffs. Having said that I know the broken bluffs and cliffs around the warren and lydden spout would still be a stiff proposition.

    2. Have checked though you are right the 19th came from Kenneth Macksey's excellent (mainly fictional) book, but all the more detailed accounts and more recent stuff has the plan as the 2nd Paratroop regiment covering this area. I will amend my future battles ..thanks for taking the time to read my stuff πŸ˜€
