Roman Cavalry Turma : Hadrian's Wall celebration

Living in the far north of England can be a pain sometimes, cold, wet and dark far too much but we do have masses of history. Living only 20 miles from Hadrians wall is great and as part of a special celebration this year they staged some re-enactments over the weekend in Carlisle. As well as the usual informative encampment and legionaries the main event was the Cavalry Turma. They had managed to pull together 30 Roman Cavalry and put them through their paces. Has to be said this was pretty cool, all the guys were friendly answered loads of questions.
Plenty of Legionaries on show
Some artillery ๐Ÿ˜€
Auxiliaries ๐Ÿ˜€
The full Legion on show..there are about 30 of these guys
Putting them through their paces
A test
And then the cavalry......๐Ÿ˜€
Also put through their paces
Again 30 of these guys
They then did a range of exercises and tests
Final show of all the re-enactors together
A fun afternoon๐Ÿ˜€

  7. That looks great, I like the auxiliaries shields and the cavalry look great. I remember walking the wall in September, glorious sunshine in Newcastle followed by continuous rain till we got to the other end and the sun came out, ah how we laughed!
