Median Cavalry

Feels like ages since I completed a unit. Like all cavalry units these seemed to take ages and I could probably do a bit more but they are ready to game at this stage.
Not particularly armoured but with shields so I guess they will play as medium cavalry. They are Wargames factory figures. When I opened the box I discovered you get two sets of horse heads. The smaller ones are truely awful but these are designed as Persian/median cavalry with a suitable topknot and slightly more ornate bridle. The shields are from a different box. The spears are metal replacements as they are more robust. Based in pairs for ease and flexibility πŸ˜€

  1. The cavalry look finished (and nicely so) to me. I especially like your handpainted shield designs.

I find there there is a definite battle between painting and gaming. All the activities related to putting on a game take precious resources away from the painting desk. A constant struggle, for sure.

    1. I enjoy both....although I wouldn’t paint if I wasn’t going to game with stuff. I wish I could do something more complex on the shields but I don’t have the skills.😒

    2. Not "simple" but "impressionistic!" For me, it is much better to paint stylistically rather than attempt too much detail or complicated design and muck it up. In this case, less is more.

    3. I’ll stick with impressionist and they do look fine from 3’ which is where they are looked at fromπŸ˜€

  2. Smashing work Matt, I know what you mean about cavalry and often put off doing them because of the length of time it takes me to complete them.

    1. I think it is just the extra horse stuff especially with a unit of 12. Don’t think I could ever do naopleonics ! Well probably not πŸ™‚

  3. They look great! I like the way the blue compliments the metallic colours.

    1. Thanks Steve I’m trying to give lots of regionally variation to the Persians and make them colourful but not too gaudy as they are fighting not on parade

  4. Nice colour choice and fine painting on the shields, I almost always paint cavalry along with infantry they don't seem to take as long that way, although that is not the case I'm sure.

    1. Somebody with more time could work out the painting stages between cavalry and infantry it feels they take a lot more effort to complete πŸ˜€

    1. Thanks Roy they are deliberately not too clean as I like my figures to look like they are going into battle not paradeπŸ€”

  8. Nice looking unit, I know what you mean about wargames factory, I will eventually paint mine but I'm in no hurry! I also agree about cavalry vs infantry, they do seem to take longer, maybe that's why my five napoleonic cavalry units have remained primed but nothing more for over a year!
    Best Iain
