What do Panzer Grenadiers and Persian cavalry have in common

You guessed it nothing that I can think of except I have managed to get some painting done. Following on from the heavy machine gun unit as a test unit a couple of weeks ago I waded, and it did feel hard work, through two platoons of Panzer Grenadiers. It took a lot to prep and paint so many figures in one go, but now they are done.

Two full platoons which could play as three smaller units
At the same time I painted up a whole range of command bases, some with and some without antitank weapons. A sniper team and an independent antitank unit, I just need to do some artillery and possibly some transport and I have workable German force to take on my Americans.
I am planning a Marathon game later in the year so I have been bulking out my Persian forces. Here is another medium cavalry unit….shields or not shields that is the question ?some debate and I am sure I have seen a picture of  them with. Anyway it is done now and if anybody can show me a photograph from the time I will change them.

Another unit is being stuck together this evening

Thanks for popping by

Matt

  1. Lovely stuff. Played a game of rapid fire the other day. Very simple and good fun WW2 game.

    3. Phil, bought the original, twas a fiver. Dont play enough WW2 and my guys tend to play flames of war, with too many figures. Spend the day being a traffic warden

    4. Matt, flames is fine but James and Dave insist on a full division at 1:1 scale. I have loads british paras and commandos

    5. Thanks I wasn’t planning large battles in 15mm …but that could change of course. As I have FoW and this is likely to be only occasional games I’m not sure I want to invest in more rules but I can always be persuaded I guess ?

  2. Matt, your paint brushes are smoking! Great job all around. My painting output is slipping but I have high expectations for later in the week. I know, famous last words.

    1. Some units just seem to take ages and that was true of the Grenadiers. The cavalry were comparatively easy and I was able last evening to make up the next unit 👍

    1. Thanks Neil the purple/yellow colour scheme seems a common illustration for Persian cavalry, suspect the reality was a little less vivid ?

    1. Thanks Steve I tend to agree with the shields, these guys will probably play as ‘medium’ as I tend to make the mounted archers as the really light cavalry.

  9. I can answer the question you posed Matt....they both start with the letter P....😂 Nice work as always, tge basing on the cavalry is very nice indeed! Our group all have heaps of FoW WWII but we rarely play and I don't think any of us enjoy the rules much. The best fun I ever had with WWII in 15mm was using the Crissfire rules .

    1. Well spotted Keith 👍it’s interesting how Certain rules wax and wain, in fact there should be a book written about why some rules become really popular then lose their following ? It depends I guess a lot on why we each game and how competitive we are.
