A successful day at Battleground and the new project unveiled!

So we headed off to Stockton this morning to the Battleground Wargame Show. I was putting on my What a Tanker game again, having run this at the Penrith show it was a  relatively pain free setup. I managed eight possible nine games of differing lengths, I think everybody went away happy. I know the younger participants certainly had a good time. Again plenty of nice comments about the game set up etc.... which is nice as it is pretty simple.

Here is the game in situ........just before the start
Steve was with me and we managed a bit of shopping the only bargains really being some dark age Saxon cavalry from Gripping Beast which I picked up at a pretty good price. The few other purchases were some more Arabs and some Norman Cavalry.

But I had also pre-ordered the first Forces for my new project. After much , yes very much thought I have decided to venture into something different. In later blogs I may expand on my thought process , but suffice to say at this stage that my Seven Years War, project has now started 😀
The Prussian cavalry
Prussian grenadiers
Prussian Infantry.

This is not a short term project but I do hope there will be regular updates as it progresses. I have spent a happy hour testing out base sizes this evening, the first step.🙂

  3. SYW is an excellent choice! Whose SYW figures do you have on parade? I like your choice of large bases. This will be a fun project to follow.

    1. Thank Jonathan took some deciding but I wanted something different, the base size was finally swayed by a lovely Marlborough game at the show ever they had taken this approach. I will probabaly split some units in half for flexibility and so some can be represented in column but the bulk deployed in line. I am very much looking at the grand scale.

    2. Sorry forgot to mention the figures are Pendraken, they are almost local about 70 miles from where I live, a pretty good range with extra etc, reasonable price and I kind of know Leon as they run the Battleground show. So it was an easy choice 🙂

    1. As above Norm swayed by a game at the show, some will be split in two for flexibility. I am hoping for a grand scale battle as I was looking for something different to my current games.

  5. Glad to read your day went well. I hope your new project goes swimmingly, despite being too small to bother with...

    1. Thanks David....figures may be diminutive in size but the project is large(at least in my mind)

  6. What a great new project.... and your enthusiasm must be running high... because you’ve already started play with them.
I like the big bases...it suits the scale... though I’m not sure I could cope with painting them.
I’m looking forward to seeing what you with them.

    All the best. Aly

  7. A fine day all round then. Have been tempted with wee chaps for the Franco-Prussian War, but think I would just end up spraying them blue and red :~)

    1. Game went well some great feedback, we’ll see how I get on with the scale, it will be a while before any battles take place 🤔

  10. Glad your show went well. And good luck with your new project. I think a mass of smaller figures on a large base looks the business! That also seems like a large amount of figures just for starting out. 😀

    1. Cheers Stew, we’ll see how the project develops, I picked up two small starter armies, which give five infantry, 3 guns and a unit of cavalry. It looks a lot but packs into a small bag 🤔

  11. I really enjoy playing WAT. I need to break down and get the PDF rules. Oh, and that's a lot of lead you picked up too.

    1. WAT does seem to work well as a participation game 🙂 . Much of the lead is quite small but I can’t resist a bargain 🙂

  12. Before making a final decision on the SYW basing, you should drop in on the Honours of War Forum and view Leman's and Westmarcher's Pendraken SYW photos (view Battle Reports also).
