Sorry for the lack of posting recently another holiday and a further bout of illness has seen me off grid for a while. Gradually I’m getting better again and have been pottering about doing some painting.
First up some Russian figures, these were second hand
I’ve painted them up fairly generically for my Russian Civil war collection 2 squads above
A medium machine gun
A few extra figures to make up a separate gun team
I also picked up some more winter trees at Partizan, these are generally smaller than the ones I have previously but will look good in Norway battles in the future, my task was to base them onto something a bit more solid and functional
Next up some more french artillery, these were some spare figures for which I picked up a spare gun
and some French Horse artillery, these are Foundry figures in their dress uniforms, impractical but rather splendid.
A German light mortar, thank you George for donating this 👍
Our recent family holiday was down in North Norfolk, beautiful countryside, beaches and some history as well.
Sunset on Brancaster Beach
North Norfolk also has an excellent military museum the Muckleburgh Collection, a great collection on artillery pieces
Armoured vehicles..
A good range of tanks
Including a Sherman
Outside some large artillery as well
We came across this pillbox in the middle of nowhere so I took a photo
A trip to Castle Rising a very spectacular Norman keep with substantial earthworks
It was Father’s Day when we were down in Norfolk and we took the opportunity to drive the FV432 which they have at Muckleburgh
We also visited Houghton Hall where the past Duke collected a large number of miniatures and toy soldiers, not sure if he was a wargamer but he built some spectacular dioramas which are all now on show
Many different periods on show
And of course a small version of Waterloo
So a mixed bag of stuff going on although not much gaming at the moment. Hopefully that will change soon.
Thanks a always for popping by Matt 😀
Some good goings on there Matt, glad to hear you are on the mend health wise.
ReplyDeleteThanks Phil things to keep me busy and I am slowly on the mend 👍
DeleteSorry to hear about your recent bout of illness. Hopefully that will be the last of it for a while now. Lovely painting there Matt, and I enjoyed the photos of your recent outings. The Duke obviously had a bit of time on his hands.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lawrence, plenty to see and do in Norfolk the Duke had plenty of money to spend as the descriptions seem to indicate the figures were painted for him, and in some places the dioramas professionally made ?
DeleteGlad to hear you are on the mend and good to see some more painted miniatures on show, the Foundry horse artillery are very nice indeed. Super photos from your hols as well!
ReplyDeleteThanks Donnie slowly recovering ! I do like the Horse artillery and have a limber to go with them at some point 👍
DeleteAgree, great to see new miniatures from you!
ReplyDeleteBest regards
Thanks Michal at least I’m still ticking over some figures 👍
DeleteGlad you're on the mend Matt. I like those Russians and those dioramas look fantastic
ReplyDeleteThanks Neil, the Russians will work for RCW and Back of beyond which of course is why I picked them up, nice figures which painted up easily 👍
DeleteGlad you are on the up Matt! Some grand additions and interesting holiday photos too.
ReplyDeleteThanks David slowly improving although it has been a slow job ! muckleburgh definitely worth a visit lots of interesting things on show
DeleteSorry to hear that you have not been well Matt, but what a treat you have stored up for us.
ReplyDeleteThanks Michael I’m trying to keep busy at least 👍
DeleteSome great painting there Matt, but sorry to hear about another bout of illness for you. I love Brancaster beach, ditto Old Hunstanton too, but the former is my favourite I think, but a good few years since I've been. IIRC it had a ship wreck that you could walk to at low tide, but had to make sure you got back in time as the tide rushed in more quickly than one thought.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see the Muckleburgh collection one day and I have vague memories of visiting that castle as a young kid, but too long ago to be sure...
Thanks Steve, we were staying in a cottage in Brancaster Staithe which was a lovely spot looking out over the marshes. Muckleburgh definitely worth a trip if you are on holiday in Norfolk, I only shared a few of the collection 👍
DeleteWell laid out trip, great visiting places of such interesting stuff to gawk at. Glad to see you painting again, take the time to recuperate.
ReplyDeleteThanks Joe recovering slowly and keeping up the painting 👍
DeleteLooks like you have been busy on several fronts Matt. Sorry to read you've been ill again, hopefully you recover completely this time and stay well for a few months 😊
ReplyDeleteThanks Keith unfortunately my wife has also been ill and we have been swopping illness between us over the last few weeks perhaps another holiday is in order ?
Deletewell that all looks amazing. glad you are on the mend. see you on 21st
ReplyDeleteThanks Martin all good for the 21st 👍 hangover hopefully cleared 🍺

ReplyDeleteYou have been busy, hoping to see you next week.
Thanks George, I don’t feel busy but that is I guess retirement for you. Should all be fine for next week 👍
DeleteGreat looking additions to your collection, Matt. Good to hear you're getting back to good health.
ReplyDeleteNice minis, great pics of the trip- and hope the health continues to improve!
ReplyDeleteNice miniatures and I hope you continue to feel well.
ReplyDeleteI love it when tank museums have them all parked bumper to bumper like that. 😀
