North Cumberland Royalist's : Recon in force !

With their own resources limited mainly to agricultural goods the North Cumberland Royalist forces, based in Carlisle and the Eden valley have sent a strong mobile reconnaissance force to the East over the Pennines. A force this size is too strong for the local independent militia units along the A66 to cause any problems and they melt away onto the moors as the column moves past. Their targets are the coal mines in and around  West Aukland. Not sure what they will find but they are looking to bring back anything of value for the cause !
The force is highly mobile with a mixture of regular troops in trucks, light tanks and armoured cars, together with a detachment of irregular cavalry, members of the Penrith Fascist Union and the Cumberland Constabulary.
They are also supported by a Hawker Fury currently flying under the colours of the Penrith Fascists, whilst mainly for Scouting purposes the plane does carry some small 2lb bombs it can drop. With a force this size they don't expect much trouble from the Durham Miners and hope to be back on the right side of the Pennines in a couple of days...........

  3. Young Artie Scargill jumped up and down on the spot trying to see over his father as he stood at the back of the crowd of miners. His father picked him up and put him on his shoulders. In front of him, at the base of the town hall steps was a crowd of miners, postmen and even some footballers. Johnny new that they were Port Vale, from the Midlands who had come to West Aukland to play the World Cup winning club.
On top of the town hall steps stood the beautiful and terrifying Tatyana Korin. The Russian was calling the men to arms. "Brothers, Sisters, Comrades, the Fascists are coming to enslave you again. Our freedoms were hard fought but the war is not over. We are the Free Durham Workers and we will not be defeated. Arm yourselves and prepare to fight for you homes and your families"
A mighty cheer went up around the square and the men clasped each other's hands and prepared for war. Artie's dad lifted him down, winked at him and they walked home to get his Dad's gun

  4. I do my weekly shop at Sainsbury's on the West Auckland / Bishop Auckland Road, so I hope you two chaps don't make too much of a mess.

Here's a bit of local knowledge that might be fun to know: West Auckland F.C. won the Sir Thomas Lipton Trophy, which was the first International Football Trophy. I can't tell the tale as good as the wiki can, so I'll add a link for you to read about what happened to the Cup ... Maybe it might turn up in a future battle?!

    1. Part of my joy in the dungeon is allowing my alter ego to run wild. So it is wholly appropriate for my royalists to be massively over confident, they are after all fighting for the true King ! Luckily in real life I am not like that.😀
