The obvious difference is I have tried the alternative basing for these guys, splitting the unit in two this allows easy deployment in line
.....and a deployment in something like a column/block ? a lot of compromise here but I don’t want to increase the number of bases per unit as this may become too fiddly
They look great
ReplyDeleteThanks Martin.....I need a few more now !

DeleteThe scale does rather invite the 1 vs 2 base question and one that has caused me to go back and forth a number of times, even in the same project. For ancient armies, medieval and ECW it becomes easier to settle on the single base, 18th Century arguable and then later even more arguable. It is probably napoleonics that puts the question under most pressure and I suppose it then depends at what level of command is being represented. Rules like Volley and Bayonet 'assume' the unit is in the right formation for the moment.
ReplyDeletethe only real problem that I have had with big bases is that on hexed Hexon terrain, the sculpting of hills means that one or both ends of the base seem to hang in the air, while individual smaller bases will hug the contours. As always .... compromises in choices.
Thanks Norm, I certainly won’t be going more than two bases per unit for infantry but the rest will probabaly be a mix. I am looking at a larger scale battle effect where I think single bases is the way to go. Terrain shouldn’t be an issue with my normal terrain set up π
DeleteVery nice, Matt. I do like SYW, but hesitate to get into another era. However, in 10mm it might be do-able! :)
ReplyDeleteLooks good to me and I like the two base approach but really only matters depending on the game mechanics. But it does allow one stand to be cocked at an angle to show disorder or some sort of status.
ReplyDeleteMore Diddy Men! Ken Dodd would be proud of you! Soon be finished with these at this rate? π
ReplyDeleteWonderful job, looks great and beautifully painted!
