Prussians Dragoons : SYW

The plan is in the background to work my way gradually through more SYW units depending on what I fancy doing next. So I thought I would try some Dragoons. Very similar sculpts and again fairly easy to paint although probably slightly more complex than the Cuirassiers.
I have gone for a slightly different basing, reflecting the more dynamic pose of the Dragoon horses, it also allows you to tell at a difference. I just need to think hard about the Hussar basing now ?

Working on some more stuff this weekend 🙂

  1. Your dragoons are nice! I like the contrast between the mid-blue coat and their lighter chestnut mounts.

    1. Thanks Jonathan my plan was to have lighter horses for the lighter cavalry, we’ll see how it works out ?

  2. Another nice unit, the deeper bases gives a nice sense of movement. The only suggestion I can make re hussars, is that to make them recognisable is one less figure on an even slightly deeper base (say 5mm) to allow greater variation in horse front to back position to show fast movement.

Could you slow down on unit production ...... you are embarrassing me :-)

    1. Thanks Norm, I’m going to think about that idea for the Hussars, as to pace I might get distracted so don’t worry 🙂

  4. Excellent work, I like the small details like the pompoms. Tiny additions like that really makes the unit "pop." The pendraken cavalry continues to impress me.

    1. I am trying the same basing style as well. I settled on dropping the number of models on the stand, but works better for Old Glory where it won't generate a lot of spares. Of course the colors on the hussars will already help them stand out rather readily.

    2. I managed to pick up some Austrian cavalry of eBay so will try them at some stage, I’m going to play with the spacing of Hussars to see if it makes a difference
