Border Reivers Show 2016

Been for a jolly day out to Gateshead and the Border Reviers show. Not a massive show basically filling a medium sized sports hall and I guess it might suffer a bit from being right at the end of the school holidays but we had a fun day out. The demo games did feel a little lack lustre but then I might just be spoilt by recent experiences and shows. The pick for me were a beautifully presented 28mm Napoleonic game and  a massive Cannae battle in 6 or 10 mm I think.

As it happens it is my birthday next week and Mrs Dungeon was keen for me to buy something so as I left she kindly pressed some £20's into my sweaty hand with the clear expectation I should spend it or else she would feel guilty for not getting me anything else. After a long discussion in the car I knew roughly what I was after..............

Mainly a focus on VBCW and operation Sealion which are both at the top of my current priorities......so here is what I picked up. Armoured cars for both British and Germans, after much debate a Panzer IVD and a Panzerjager I, thank you Warlord form giving me a discount. Some excellent motorcyclists from 1st Corps which I have not seen before. Sloppy Jalopy Miners and Civilians who are now being stocked by Sally 4th. A couple of odd figures from Colonel Bills rummage box and the bargain of the day a copy of 'To the strongest', from the bring and buy for £5, almost guilt free shopping πŸ˜€

Also met up with quite a few people to catch up with and planned my next VBCW with Martin Cooke, so I need to get the Miners built !

    1. Just been out with the dogs planning the Alston Socialist Alliance. My sense is they are likely to be fairly poorly equipped. Possibly some armoured cars, some home made vehicles ? A single tank.....but they would have plenty of explosives to make into grendes and home made mortars. They won't have much in the way of modern antitank guns but perhaps they could trade lead ore and other valuable minerals for an old WW1 heavy howitzer or perhaps it had be destined for scrap and they have refurbished itπŸ˜€

  2. It sounds like a good day out. Living over here in the Colonies I do miss the British wargames shows.

  3. Operation Sealion is a bit of a passion since reading Invasion by Ken Macksey in the mid 80's. I love alternate fiction on the subject too and am looking forward to the BBC's SS GB drama. The subject of the German invasion is being used in my next RPG campaign too, still in the brain planning stage at the moment. Love the blog and cant wait for the campaign.

    1. Thanks John I have been working on Sealowe for quite a while and am nearly there πŸ˜€part of my interest at least comes from being brought up in Kent and knowing really well the SE so I feel I know the key locations.
