Delaware Battalion : AWI

The scarcity in blogging recently has two causes, work has been busy and my iPad has had a melt down. A new one has had to be ordered so hopefully in a week or so I can catch up (we have played a couple of nice games) in the meantime I have managed to finish off my first proper American Unit. A Delaware Line Battalion formerly Haslett’s Regiment.

Pretty happy with the result, firstly I have found AWI are harder to paint than ACW, it’s the buttons. Secondly the choice of colour schemes is bewildering, the guide which comes with the Perry figures is excellent especially when cross referenced to other sources. I have given a little variety with the colour of their trousers. The flag was kindly supplied by Mr B although I trimmed it down a bit (it looks the part even if I have made a historical faux par).

I have many more units to go at both plastic and metal.

Hope you are all keeping well πŸ˜€
Weather has been a bit missed so recent cycling photos not quite so spectacular

  1. Matt, that's a lovely unit, plenty of detail, but there-in is the beauty!

Perhaps the nicest book I have ever seen is ..... An illustrated encyclopedia of Uniforms of The American War of Independence 1775-1783, published by Lorenz Books. There is a lot of colour plate (600), plus flags and facings charts etc. Mine says £19.99 on the back.

It's the kind of thing you should have as compensation for not being able to go to Phoenix this year :-).

    1. Thanks Norm......luckily I picked up a copy of the book you mentioned a while ago and I have found cross referencing that with the perry guide and the excellent lists in the Black powder Rebellion supplement by Steve Jones gives me enough detail without having to work too hard.

  5. Nice work! Information on American uniforms is spotty. Sometimes, the only source is one reference from one deserter. Again, lovely cycling country. My mileage is climbing as typical for summer with weekly average nearing 160 miles/week.

    1. Thanks Jonathan ....a very respectable mileage I can average that each week, not sure where I would find the time πŸ€”

  6. Excellent job on the AWI. My guys don’t have any of those buttons but I think it must be a difference in the sculpts / manufacturers. But the effort you put in is well worth it. πŸ˜€

    1. Thanks David.....slow but steady progress, unlike your new Romans ! I’m too much of a butterfly with far too many projects all running concurrently. Oh and then there is work 😒

  9. Wonderful stuff Matt.
Just finished watching the Washington documentary on Sky, could easily be drawn back in.

    1. Thanks Stu......will watch out for the documentary, sounds interesting but not a sky subscriber. The period is much more colourful than I had expected.

  10. Beautifully painted AWI troops, Matt. I think the variety of uniform colors rivals Napoleonics.

    1. Thanks Dean.....can’t agree more as I read a bit more and deliver into the period I had no idea it was so colourful. I suspect some of this might be wargamers licence but I’m not complaining

  11. Lovely looking toys Matt...
I have to admit that I was rather surprised at the variety and complexity of the uniforms... on both sides... in the American War of Independence....
    They are rather pretty though.

    All the best. Aly
