‘The Great Game’ British force

I have been painting up the last of the British for my ‘Great Game’ force this week.

Here they are a simple paint job , these are again mainly woodbine figures although the guy in shorts is something else. I do have a number of other command figures but not enough for a full unit so I might work these into little vignettes at some point.
This got me to thinking about the full force as it stands so as the table was fairly clear I treated myself to a parade. I can supplement what I have recently painted with some Scottish from my VBCW collection, I may go back and repaint the hats to khaki ? I then have a couple of Lanchester Armoured cars again I may  do a head swop for the driver, a Rolls Royce from my RCW collection and a couple of suitable vehicles. I also have an artillery piece but need to source a gun crew. I have some that could stand in for now. More than enough then for a Bolt action game. What I wonder is missing perhaps some cavalry. I already have a suitable biplane. Any thoughts welcome I feel they need a bit of colour ?

    The new additions look great Matt and a nice little parade too - but I really dont like the sky blue ToS - repaint toute suite please!The vehicles are cool too - a gun crew should be pretty simple to acquire - as for colour, maybe some lancers with red and white pennants - or Indian lancers with multi coloured turbans?

      Thanks Keith, some Lancers sounds like an excellent idea and would give me the option for a splash of colour. Sorry about this ToS they were for my VBCW army where imagination is allowed to run wild. I might well re paint them 🙂

    Lovely work Matt. Well, it was the period of khaki, wasn't it? I'm not sure how much more colour you can add, apart from some Bengal Lancers or something similar as Keith has suggested.

      Thanks Lawrence, as you say Khaki is Khaki , lancers seems like a good option. They can of course have some mercenary tribes men fighting for them ?

    Definitely add some cavalry. I was lucky to source my Brigade Games Imperial and Indian cavalry before postage ruled them out.

      Thanks David, cavalry options do seem slightly limited, Foundry of course do Bengal and Sikh cavalry. Great War miniatures but they are expensive !

    Another vote for a small cavalry element. Lovely collection and the vehicles are rather splendid, especially the conversions from the die cast cars.

      Thanks Norm…cavalry seems the next step, but that might wait a while. Thinking about it I might have some WW1 gunners somewhere ? Will have a dig about in the dungeon. I also want another command car I think for the army.

    This is repetitious but the force look great and Indian cavalry are perhaps the best source of colour.
    Are Yeomanry another possibility or perhaps some Naval Gunners?

      Thanks Steve, in an ideal world I need some colonial cavalry and some Yeomanry cav as well to complete the force. Naval gunners is an interesting idea ?

      Thanks Phil looks like the vote is definitely some cavalry to bulk the force out. That may have to wait till I do the ethnic cavalry I picked up at the show ?

      Thanks Stew…no worries ‘The Great Game’ is the term used for the real and potential conflicts between the imperial powers of Britain and Russia across Central Asia. It is a pretty loose term but kind of encompasses First Afghan war through to the Russian Revolution. We are setting our timeframe roughly between 1905 to 1920 where the central Asian area is squarely between the Russian, Turkish, British and Chinese empires. Stuck in the middle are the many and various central Asian tribal nations. So lots of opportunity for campaigning 🙂
