This weeks painting update πŸ˜€

Some more painting activity this week as well as a trip to Vapnartak.

First up a second mortar team for the Americans. This was of eBay at a reasonable price and nice as it is different to the other version they do adding some variety, incredibly simple to paint.
I also had a few more GI’s donated by Phil (thank you Phil) so I have painted them too, obviously to match my previous sets. Frustratingly whilst I hunted the show at the weekend I wasn’t able to find another American sprue 😒 that leaves me I think 3 figures short of my basic CoC platoon. I am loath to buy a whole box although that may ultimately be where I need to go providing lots of reinforcements ? I have been reading around and am quite obsessed with the invasion of Sicily at the moment, partly as we are visiting the island on holiday later in the year. It may well be this is where my American force sees most action. This does mean I am also thinking a lot about Mediterranean terrain, more on that over the next few weeks.
One follow up from last weeks desert battle, we were discussing what I could use the spare Valentine bits for ? I can’t find any evidence they were used for transport but they were used to carry 25lbrs as the Bishop. Steve took a couple of sprues away and came up with these very respectable conversions ?
Vapnartak at the weekend, Norm has already given a great run down of the show, and I didn’t take any pictures of games. I really enjoy the show but focus very much on the shopping/trading. A chance to spend a whole day absorbed in this wonderful hobby perhaps get a few bargains etc etc….above a collection of what I picked up. If you look closely I picked up a painted French unit. A bit of bargaining and they were mine πŸ˜€
They needed rebasing but I cracked on with this over the last two evenings. They are really well painted and fit nicely with my other peninsular French. This has led me to consider how, when and how much I am prepared to buy painted figures. It is certainly a Good way to boost the project at this fairly early stage, but I am contrary to what you might think, desperately bad at spending money πŸ˜€

Thanks as always hopefully another battle tomorrow

  1. Hi Matt, a nice boost to the Napoleonics. At the next show, I will spend a bit more effort trying to track down a nice painted unit as a treat,

    1. I will only buy painted if they are a real bargain, but they are nice when you get them πŸ‘

  4. Matt, you are keeping yourself quite busy on the hobby front. From various blog reports, seems a large crowd of familiar faces presented themselves at the show.

    1. Keeping busy πŸ‘ the show at York is certainly one of the bigger shows in the north so attracts a pretty large crowd from the north

  5. A nice mix of stuff there Matt, hope someone reading this has three Yanks to donate to your cause! I have never bought pre painted figures or paid anyone to paint for me, I am far too mean! It astounds me to be honest that people have the disposable income to fund £8 per infantry figure or £12 per cavalryman....a couple of painted units would cost the equivalent of a whole collection of bare metal!

    1. I fear in my past I might have a little Scottish blood ? I’m with you I cant normally part with the cash, after my hard bargaining though these were a lot less than that πŸ‘

  7. A diverse post but one which shouts out the joy of your hobby! Modest spend at Vapnartak, so more for Hammerhead and Partizan perhaps? Nice Bishop conversions I think.

    1. Thanks David lots of Hobby joy πŸ‘ trying to decide if Hammerhead more likely to come to Partizan, given the Bishop are only made of scraps they are great

  8. More lovely stuff Matt. I especially like the Bishop conversions. They were among my favourite tanks when I played 1/300 WWII in the 80's as they could destroy all opposition tanks if they could get a hit.

    1. Thanks Lawrence , yes the Bishops are great and carrying those 25lbrs pack a punch, discontinued as I assume they were so weakly armoured.

  13. Good work sir! I think the invasion of Sicily etc is fascinating too, plus it’s often overlooked by WW2 gamers. The Mediterranean has become one of our favourite theatres of war here at the table. With a bit of thought, much of the scenery can be used for a wide range of conflicts, e.g. WW2, Naps, Italian Wars, etc.
What a wonderful hobby indeed 😎
    Cheers

    1. Thanks Matt as it happens I am diving into some more specific Mediterranean terrain at the moment. Completely agree the flexibility across across both time and geography make it very interesting and a bit easier on staorage.πŸ‘
