Dragon Rampant : LOTR

As way to remind myself and sharpen up on the rules for next week we have played a couple of larger LOTR battles (and a dark age battle) using Dragon Rampant. In the first battle we played a straight bloodbath Gondor vs Isengard. It also gave me the chance to use the new terrain as well.

Wargs attack from the top of the hill.
Overall battlefield
Gondors' finest prepare to charge the wargs
Saruman's evil horde advancing everywhere
Close up of the Wargs...cinematic ?
Archers attempt to fell the troll without much success
At this point with the troll now killed we called a halt a victory to the White TowerπŸ˜€
Second scenario Gondor attempt to get across the battlefield
What is Boromir doing out in the open....
A double 1 ! this didn't happen in the film !

Fun games and just what I needed to refresh on the rules. Points wise this is about 55 points a side so roughly twice that suggested in the rule book, but the mechanics worked fine.

  1. Very nice using LotR figure in Dragon Rampant. I may have to try it. It seems so obvious now it is pointed out!

    1. Yep the rule set works quite well, and although I quite like both the skirmish and larger scale war of the ring games Dragon Rampant is very easy to pick up for a couple of games.

    1. Cheers Gordon.....this set up is obviously slightly larger but my plan was always to make sure anything I build for the show can be used for other games.πŸ˜€

    1. Thanks Michael....not sure if you have played lion rampant but they are very similar. They do give a very flexible and easy to pick up set of rules and work from a few figures up to about 10 units. I think bigger than this and the 3" separation rule is a problem.
