R & R Craignethan Castle

Half term break in Scotland in Edinburgh but on the way we always try and visit a new castle this time we found Craignethan castle near Lanark a hidden gem, helped by the fact it was a hot sunny day.

Definitely worth a visit if you are interested in castles and heading north. Very quite, built around 1530 by Sir James Hamilton of Finnart also known as the 'bastard of Arran' 😀. Now that certainly gives me some ideas and inspiration for some Reiver type scenarios.

  3. Like Martin...I also like a good castle especially on a sunny day. I regularly drag my family to one of the many that lie along the border with Wales for a wander and a picnic.

  4. I like a good castle too. My wife is descended from Border Reivers, so I have to watch what I say in case she calls out the Hot Trod on me! ;)
