Continental Artillery Part 2 : American War independence

I managed to finish off the last (for now) artillery piece. Not certain of the guns origin and I am assuming it is a 24 lb siege gun. The crew are definitely Front Rank figures, I have magnetised them so at some point the gun can swop sides if needed for a scenario etc. or just be used as an objective. Perhaps it might appear in the FIW as well ?

I have also been missing my regular gaming shows during the late summer and autumn and have found myself buying too many things. They will all no doubt appear on the blog when they are painted up πŸ™‚

First up though a book, there are of course some very good sources of info on the internet for the SYW but books are nice too.....

Hope you are all keeping well πŸ‘

  1. This is a very heavy piece. Nicely rendered too! Good idea to allow for swapping of crew so that this beast can be crewed by anyone.

I look forward to your parade of recent purchases and your Digby Smith book is a good start. For Prussian uniform plates, I find that the two-volume set by Dorn and Englemann are my favorites.

    1. Thanks Jon, it feels indulgent have more than one of these guns unless planning a huge siege battle which I’m not. But it will make a nice objective as part of a baggage train. I have mainly used the web where there are some fabulous sources but sometimes a book is nice to hold

    1. Thanks Aly she’s a beauty, but I need to make some defences for her to hide behind now. The book is nice although like many the web provides a host of info πŸ™‚

  10. That’s a serious gun there! How did you magnetize the figures? That’s a good idea. πŸ˜€

    1. Thanks Stew, simple job, instead of stick figures direct to the base they are mounted on small washers or in this case British 1p piece. Then when putting my usual Milliput texture base on I use a second coin to create a suitable flat spot. Then prior to painting the base drill small hole and stick a small magnet into the base. They are strong so won’t fall off in a game. All I then need to do is mount any future gun crew on the same coins/washers allowing them to swop. It’s a technique I have used for some of my ACW standard bearers. If you get it right which I didn’t quite with this gun as I was rushing you can’t see the coin but here my Milliput wasn’t quite thick enough πŸ™‚

  11. Hello Matt!
Can I have a request for you?
I have some problems with the "pl" server and my blog came back with the correct name http://dwarfcrypt.blogspot.com/
If you could add to your blog roll again, I would be honored :)
