The balance between gaming and painting swings backwards and forwards sometimes. I have been lucky enough to have kept gaming pretty much each week since Christmas but this means I have been missing my painting sessions which are so important, that positive sense of progress and completion when another unit is marched off the desk. Anyway enough philosophy I managed to get these guys finished yesterday.
Sherburne’s additional regiment, think they are nearly all Wargames Foundry but a Perry might have slipped in, they work together anyway, these are the first of 2 or 3 metal (yes metal David) American units picked up in a big jumbled job lot at Vapnartak a year ago I think. I have since picked up a Perry command set and am using them to mix the units up a little.
Although we haven’t quite completed our mini AWI campaign our thoughts have turned to what next. The obvious thing is a single slightly larger game covering Bunker/Breed’s Hill. So whilst tidying up I got out the American forces to check if I had enough here they are (minus the artillery).
The good news is if we stretch Rebels and Patriots i have almost exactly the right number of troops. All I need is an extra British cannon crew, a couple more commanders and some Marines. These then will be target over the next few weeks.
But in the meantime another game to organise hopefully for this weekendπ
That's a lovely new unit Matt and the American forces look great on parade. Michael Leck, the author, has put on big games with multiple figures per base, but each base counting as one casualty. Very effective and certainly spectacular when done like this
ReplyDeleteOne hit per base is an interesting idea for large, multi-base units.
DeleteThanks Steve π as you will have spotted we are playing multi base units anyway at the moment, so the mechanics will work fine. The challenge is playing with a larger number of units and how long it takes. We’re up for a challenge
DeleteA splendid addition to the AWI collection Matt.
ReplyDeleteNice to see this project progressing so well
ReplyDeleteProgressing well......two brigades or three small brigades each side now π
DeleteBeautiful work sir!
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Michal π
DeleteVery pretty
ReplyDeleteSuper looking regiment, Matt! Refighting Bunker Hill with R&P will be interesting.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jonathan bunker hill is a go just need to sort some marines and a few bits, the terrain is already planned in my head π
DeleteSuperb addition to your army
ReplyDeleteThanks Neil π
DeleteSplendid new addition to the collection there Matt. Great news on metals too! It's never too late for a (plastic) sinner to repent remember,!π
ReplyDeleteThanks David project has been going well of late. They were nice figures π
DeleteGreat work Matt. This is my fave American unit for the AWI. Where else do you get to paint a uniform with green, yellow and brown in it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ray yes I think everybody has this unit, it is a good combination π
DeleteFine looking unit. I really like the red-brown coats and green waistcoats/trousers; quite debonair! A fine looking Continental Army you have.
ReplyDeleteRegards, James
Thank you James.......yes one of the most characteristic AWI militia units. I suspect a lot of collectors have a version.
DeleteAnother great looking Continental unit, Matt.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dean more to come.......
DeleteEveryone loves a Bunker Hill game. Good luck with the scenario. The miniatures look good! And having so little time to paint bc of being spent gaming is a nice problem to have right?!! ππ
ReplyDeleteThanks stew...as it happens I have nearly all the troops etc required for bunker hill so it will definitely be happening sometime soon. I just need another unit of British who are being rushed to the top of the painting list.
DeleteSplendid looking AWI troops, you do seem to have built an army rapidly!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thanks Iain, think the first AWI unit was exactly 1 year ago. So quite happy with the progress, I obviously don’t stick with one project but have a reasonable British and Colonial force ready for battle π
