The 83rd Regiment of Foot

Just a brief shot of my next completed unit for the peninsular war.

These are Warlord figures again but this time with the full 6 man metal command to give some variety, back on 40x40 bases but I think the next regiment will move to the six men per base seen in the last Portuguese regiment. I have spent quite a lot of time this week making the next two light infantry regiments using Victrix flank company figures, they have been more of a faff than I had expected but are now on the way. The completed 83rd means I now have enough for a good British brigade so I am thinking we may get them into battle soonish. Although not this week as two other battles are planned.

Perhaps not so dramatic but one of the local nature reserves Cliburn Moss close to where we live, home to a wide abundance of bird life, you can just see the Pennines in the distance.

Thanks for checking in, hopefully setting up a RCW battle for tomorrow

Matt

  1. A fine addition to your growing Nappies. I like the outdoor shot a timely reminder of what a blue sky looks like.

    1. Thanks Phil, we’ve only seen the blue sky a couple of times in the last 2 weeks though 🙁

  2. Nice looking Brits,nMatt, and your comment about the Victrix figures doesn't surprise me....I have only used them once and doubt I will repeat the experience ! Nice shot of the woods and a nice blue sky.....could be New Zealand!

    1. Thanks Keith, I have a lot of Victrix Greeks which were easy to put together, so I was surprised the Napoleonics were so fiddly. You probably see the blue sky slightly more often than we do ?

  4. Another fine addition. I think 6 to a base rather than 4 has more advantages. Re Victrix, I am presently putting together Austrians and struggling to get the back pack to fit properly Vs the helmet making contact with the back pack …. Though I have got some of their rather nice looking 12mm T-34’s racing to me as we speak :-).

    1. Thanks Norm, I have had the two options out in front of me for a while and I am definitely leaning towards the 6 man option. The only disadvantage I can see is the 4 man option allows you to align with companies easier, but realistically I am probably looking at rules where bases are not removed. As to the challenge of glueing the figures they were a little annoying as I mentioned above I have plenty of their Greeks which were never a problem. And yes the backpacks don’t quite fit !

  5. Matt, you keep mustering out excellent looking regiments. This addition is no different. Getting close to fielding these for a game? Great!

  6. Rather lovely looking regiment sir. Looking forward to seeing them fielded on the tabletop!

So close to the Penines too! Lucky sod, that's a very pretty part of the UK.

  9. Another really lovely unit there Matt. Blue sky seems but a fleeting memory here in Bristol, as we've had double our normal month's worth of rain already and we still have a few days left:(. The roads are shot to pieces in places so somewhat limited to where I feel I can ride safely, when it does stop raining of course!

    1. Thanks Steve living up here rain is one of those things we try not to worry about…and I agree about the roads for some reason they are diabolical at the moment with potholes

  10. Great work Matt. I don't think I would have the patience to stick together those Victrix figures. I get annoyed enough at having to spend time removing flash and tidying up figures.

    1. Thanks Lawrence, the figures look pretty good when done but I don’t like figures that need both arms sticking on !

  13. That's an amazing looking unit, Matt, you've done yourself proud. The flags look like Adolfo Ramos? They are the chef's kiss. I would love to do British for Penninsular War but will likely stick with 6mm as my preferred scale, so they won't look as nice.
We had blue sky here in Ontario today, and then snow, and then blue sky, and then snow. The spring birds are quite confused, poor things.
    Cheers, Michael

    1. Thanks Michael the flags are from Victrix ? Although I sometimes add a bit of extra paint. The only certainty for us is the weather is always changing 🙂

  14. Another lovely looking unit Matt…
I must admit that I find all plastic kits a pain to build…give me a good old one piece metal casting any day…

    All the best. Aly

    1. Thanks Aly….I competely agree and I think once I have bulked out the forces with my current stock of plastics I will start to be more selective and look at some metal units. The thing is they are so cost effective when starting a new project.
