AWI : British Grenadiers

After our short AWI mini campaign in December we have decided to run another set of linked scenario, this time focussing slightly earlier and having a little more historical context. Jonathan has been working on the scenarios so I won’t spoil the surprise. Part of the idea was to encourage me to paint up the unit of grenadiers which I knew would be a pain and I was putting off doing. So I started during Christmas and despite a momentary lapse into prepping British Infantry for the Third Afghan War I have kept my focus.

Wargames Foundry figures I have tried to do them justice thank heaven for stain, with blue trims etc they are technically a Royal Regiment. I won’t be rushing to do another regiment any time soon, basing is consistent so they can merge into other Regiments to bulk things out if necessary.
Unfortunately I just can’t stop shopping at the moment, no excuses, perhaps it is the general lockdown malaise. I have been looking out for C&C expansions and this came up at a reasonable price, and will encourage me to learn a bit more about French/Prussian battles. Quite a gap in my knowledge.....that’s if I have time, on this note, some very positive news in that I have agreed to reduce my hours and from March this year will officially become a part-timer working 4 days a week. This seems a good compromise as I plan to finish working around 60 in another 3 or so years. How time passes !
As we come to terms with our latest national lockdown, which i expect to get tougher and last longer than the previous two we are being discouraged from travelling too far so we ventured for a walk from the house to get some snowy views of the Lake District.

Take care all, I am having a hobby afternoon and trying to avoid the 20% sale by Nick at North Star ! I   May  crumble yet  ?

  1. Excellent! I figured the grenadiers were not this far along at all. Great surprise!

Commands & Colors is a terrific system. I prefer the ancients game over the Napoleonic one but both are good fun.

Congratulations on your work reduction. This must be very welcome. More gaming, painting and cycling for you.

I plan a "little" order to Northstar this weekend too...

    1. More time for the great outdoors is the plan but also and extra evening not worrying about going to work the next day. I am holding off ordering any more at the moment.....I have been pretty bad in the last couple of months ! I’m not going to run out any time soon.🤪

  2. Lovely job on the Grenadiers Matt, especially as you were finding them a bit tedious.

  4. Wow! Those British AWI figures are beautiful. The proportions look like they'd match current Perry offerings (that is, they don't appear to be "stubby" like some of Foundry's Napoleonics).

    1. Thanks Dean, scale wise they are pretty good and I am using a mix of Perry metal/plastic and Foundry for the collection and they seems to work together ok.

  5. You have done a nice job on those grenadiers, way to much lace and all those belts oh my, award yourself a medal.
I know what you mean so far I have bought the following I didn't know I wanted for my 20mm WWII collection, a Panther D, panzerjaer IV and another Russian building.
Good news on the work front too.

    1. I may not be as careful as you Phil when painting ! Shopping is dangerous and German armour is addictive !

  6. Nice looking figures. I failed the Northstar challenge and bought some more brits and some figs that could double for Turkish irregulars. Also bought a warlord mystery box

  8. Very nice painting Matt and I'm looking forward to another mini-campaign:). Well done on the reduced hours to go part-time, which I did a good few years ago and loved it! Having an extra day for R&R is wonderful:).

  9. Lovely toys Matt...
British Grenadiers do make for a very attractive unit... let’s have they fight as well as they look.

    All the best. Aly

    1. Thanks Aly they are of course supposed to be super tough ! So I can see a failed morale test in their first battle. They should be into combat in a week or so so we will see 🤔

Good luck weathering your current lockdown. I hope you will come out not too much poorer...

    1. Lovely figures by foundry no complaints there, mostly fine just the dam shoulder boards and slightly poor sculpting on the lace make them hard ! Good luck
