A mixed bag of stuff today to catchup after the Bunker Hill battle of last week.
First up the Chamberlain Brothers Joshua and Thomas, have had these ages , they are form the Wargames illustrated Giants in Miniature range, both fought for the 20th and as most of you will know are best known for playing a pivotal role on little round top Gettysburg. Rather than do them on separate bases I thought I would make them a joint command stand to fit in with my collection.
Here they are in situ, at least based like this they will get to fight rather than languish in the box. Keen eyed will notice I gave Thomas the Regimental flag to carry
Next up I have finished off another 10 mm Austrian unit IR 35 Waldeck at this scale indistinguishable from the Wallis regiment. For some reason they only got one standard bearer , but I did give them a mounted officer.
British on parade , after the Breed’s Hill game whilst sorting out and packing up the British had a chance for an army parade so here they are. In the pile to add to these I now have a unit of Hessians, a unit of JΓ€gers, another 6 or so light infantry skirmishers, and a British regular unit. So plenty to be going on with, that would bring me up to three brigades. Space for some cavalry and perhaps a couple more artillery pieces ?
Have also been planning out the next AWI game, dropping back down in scale for a skirmish. I am now in danger of committing to working our way through the War in some vague historical order. This is probably a foolish idea ! Anyway next up the very small battle of Kemp’s Landing which is a perfect size for zoomπ
In the background we (son and I) have continued to play C&C each week working through the Pennisular War, we are nearly there with the official scenarios. This was a couple of weeks ago the second half of Salamanca, here on the french right the 1st Division and light division assault across the Pela Garcia against Ferey and Foy.
The initial advance by the British on the french left is repulsed and the french taking an early lead move up to hold the high ground.
The demise of the 1st Battalion Guards, although they have caused some damage
The British then attack on the right, taking the village
But their advance is pushed back across the river, french now looking thin and are having to reorganise forces as the British turn their assault to the centre
2nd Battlion of Guards has also marched into battle and now the centre is looking fragile for the french, but we are 5 to 4 up
How did that happen, somehow the British sneak , the french stealing defeat from victory at the last moment. Another close game !
Garcia Hernandez followed. Historically this is the day after the retreating french are being pursued by British and KGL cavalry, the french famously in square break and Foy is forced to pull back. This is the strangest scenario so far, the British only have cavalry and the french start with units in square.
British cavalry are quickly swirling around and the french are forced into square, for those who haven’t played C&C when you go into square you forfeit a command card so with 4 units in the square the french have very few tactical options.
Curtis French cavalry bucking their historical role charge into the combat but are sadly badly mauled by the British.
French reserves are brought up and at this point the battle is still really in the balance. For some reason the scenario places a significant benefit for the British in wiping out infantry units
And somehow everything falls apart suddenly for the french, this was particularly disappointing as the french actually executed a really good and well timed assault which could very easily have timed the balance but somehow they failed any combats hits at all leaving things open for the British cavalry to mop up π’
Finally then and I guess not surprisingly I have been looking on eBay and these came up, not fabulously cheap but a reasonable secondhand price given they are in mint condition, with all the blocks already made up etc...... so we are going to see some of these battles in the future. These may involve real miniatures at some point π
So lots going on π hope all are keeping well and busy with hobby activities
Matt
My you have been busy, splendid stuff all round
ReplyDeleteI agree! Matt, you have been EXTREMELY productive. A lot of interesting stuff going on at your place. I really enjoy seeing more 10mm SYW troops and an expansion of C&C into ancients. My favorite C&C series of the lot and perfect for play with miniatures.
DeleteThanks Guys , keeping all my projects ticking forward π
DeleteThe Chamberlain brothers are superbly done
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Neil they are nice sculpts so fairly easy to paint
DeleteA really nice mixed bag of stuff there Matt:).
ReplyDeleteThanks Steve π
DeleteAnother productive week with loads of stuff done. Love the Chamberlains
ReplyDeleteThanks Martin.....π
DeleteSplendid figures and game Matt, top notch Chamberlain brothers!!
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Phil my painting helped by good sculpts π
DeleteGreat looking Union command and Austrians, and good gaming as well, Matt. You've certainly been keeping busy.
ReplyDeleteKeeping lots of things ticking over π
DeleteLove the collapsed flag on the Chamberlain Brother sculpts, I can’t recall seeing such a pose before in any range, no doubt other readers will be able to give a load of similar examples.
ReplyDeleteI agree Norm they make a nice command stand and will see some action hopefully not too far away
DeleteKeeping busy I see! Like the brothers Chamberlain particularly.
ReplyDeleteThanks David, hobby stuff keeping me sane at the moment. The Chamberlains make a nice pair of figures π
DeleteThe hobby mojo is certainly with you Matt... hurrah!
ReplyDeleteAll the best. Aly
Keeping me sane at the moment, but oh how I would like to go to a show !
DeleteThose Chamberlain brothers sure look snappy, and the Brits from Breed's Hill look particularly ferocious!
ReplyDeleteV/R,
Jack
Thank you, the chamberlains are great sculpts which help. Quite pleased with how my British AWI force is developing. A few more to come π
DeleteExcellent!
DeleteJack
Nice to see a parade of your AWI Brits, they've built up rapidly! Your ACW command stand looks great and good to see your enjoying C&C !
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thanks Iain yes very happy with the AWI progress so far...trying to keep some balance between the two sides as the project progresses
DeleteThe Chamberlains can’t be on the same base! One good shot and “it’d be a bad day for mother. “ π
ReplyDeleteGood point but too late now !
DeleteTha ACW figure look very nice, as do the diminutive Austrians Matt. The AWI Brits don't have time for parading about...after their recent exploits, they need a few visits to the training ground to hone their battle fighting skills! Glad to see you are still keeping up the gaming contact with your son too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Keith. Think you are right on the AWI π’
