Hold until relieved : Bolt Action and some Prussian Artillery SYW

Phil offered to host another virtual game this weekend using his lovely late war WWII collection. We used the hold until relieved scenario from the rule book. Having taken the attack last time I took the plucky brits to defend the bridge against elements of the 216th Volksgrenadier Division.

As to be expected some lovely terrain, the British are allowed to setup two units at the start close to the objective which in this case is the centre of the bridge. You can see these above a regular infantry squad just across the river and supported on this side by a Vickers Machine gun. The Germans are already starting to advance from the woods on the right.
The British bring on their 1st wave, advancing as quickly as they can using the cover of the buildings, including a Cromwell tank which moves towards the bridge.
The Germans bring on more troops but are reluctant to break into the open.
The battle starts to hot up, the Germans attempt to break out towards the bridge but they come under heavy fire
Worrying a German panzersheck team breaks across the open ground towards the Cromwell, but the British get the better of hand to hand fighting in the town
British infantry make a dash for the bridge and come under fire but it isn’t enough to purchase them back. The two armoured vehicles close in and blast away ineffectively at each other several rounds bouncing off their armour
The final position, a pretty decisive win for the British. A good game but the Germans never quite managed to get their assault off the ground
Have also decided to crack on with some SYW figures. So here are some Prussian Artillery

Hope you are  all well......I have had my 1st vaccine today and not feeling particularly well so we’ll see how things go the rest of the week ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ‘

  1. Phil sets a very fine gaming table too! Good action and a great looking Prussian artillery park. I received dose two on Friday and nursed flu-like symptoms all weekend. Sometimes the cure can be worse than the disease.

    1. Yes a lovely table, I think the Germans started with a hard task in the scenario and needed to be much more aggressive. Happy with the prussians on to some more infantry now

  2. I wish you health! I am jealous, in Poland it is probably only a year or more that my year will be vaccinated...

  4. Nice looking game and love the SYW artillery:). I felt off colour aobut 36 hours after my first dose which lasted for a few days. The worst part was it made my shoulder ache badly, so I couldn't sleep on one side. Still sore today but much improved.

    1. Thanks Phil, interested to see the figures a slightly closer up. I do think you were too generous with the set up and perhaps the Germans needed to be much more aggressive !
