Looks like face to face gaming is back on the menu !

The temperature has improved and with the lockdown rules allowing meeting up outdoors we finally got a face to face game in this weekend in the shed. We plumbed for something simple and straightforward, as it was mainly a chance to catch up and talk about gaming projects etc... So I dug out two small Al Andalus forces. Set up a 6x4 table in the shed and we were good to go. I now have this table set up down to about 20 minutes so it is t a big effort. The main challenge is carrying terrain up from the dungeon.

A small disputed settlement in arid southern Spain (or is it chilly Cumbria ?)
Medium cavalry scout the village and left flank
A mix of infantry face off across the rough ground of a dry wadi
Mercenary Christian heavy cavalry
We get the better of it at the start chasing off the enemy light cavalry
The enemy are now outnumbered
The remnants of the light cavalry have pulled back
The joy of gaming, two medium infantry units crash into combat take a single casualty each but then both roll double ones and flee the table !
Allied archers are effective but won’t win the battle on their own
Eventually the two protagonists clash in hand to hand combat but neither is killed, the game ends as we reach only five units left on the table and when the points are added the enemy have come out with a minor victory due to the cost of the mercenary cavalry who are still not the table. A close game and it was just great to play face to face and catch up. As the weather warms up more gaming is on the cards ๐Ÿ˜€
Quite a lot of hobby activity but the only unit completed are these tiny Austrians the Carl Lothringen regiment.

Hope you are all well ๐Ÿ‘

  2. Great to see you able to get some FtF gaming in Matt. Hopefully in a few weeks we will be allowed to meet up indoors and, if so, I have a game already planned:)

  3. I'm impressed! Not so much by the game as by the sheet British pluck gaming in the outdoors at this time of year! Much as I've missed F2F gaming I'd not freeze for it!

    1. It wasn’t so cold, just need a jumper. Yes those footsore figures are lovely and you wouldn’t need too many for a small lion rampant game ๐Ÿค”

  10. Very good to see an F2F game at your place, Matt! Perhaps the tide is beginning to turn? Where I live, we are under threat of actually increasing restrictions although the height of the hurdles set earlier may be lowered to allow the county to clear them. Sigh.

    1. Thanks Jon things are finally going in the right direction, shops are open and I can’t see it going back the other way at the moment. Final restrictions should be reduced in June .

  15. A great looking if very bloody game and wonderful that you were able to have face to face gaming again, although all your virtual encounters with Mr Freitag have looked very entertaining too. The Austrian troops look great and their flags are very impressive
